Sharing previous campaigns is a great way to engage new subscribers and allows them to catch up on campaign content sent to your list before they signed up. MailChimp provides a few easy ways to get previous campaign content to new list members.

Using the *|LIST:RECENT|* merge tag

Our *|LIST:RECENT|* merge tag pulls in archive links to the five most recent campaigns sent to a list. This merge tag can be used in campaigns and autoresponders as well as in the signup process, such as on the hosted signup form, signup confirmation pages, and the Final "welcome" email.

Type the *|LIST:RECENT|* merge tag into your campaign, autoresponder, or form, and it automatically populates archive links to recent campaigns when you preview or test the campaign or autoresponder, or when the form is viewed.

Five most recent campaigns

You can also add a number to the end of this tag to display a specific number of the most recent campaigns. For example, *|LIST:RECENT10|* shows the ten most recent campaigns sent to a list. Aside from the number of most recent campaigns displayed, there is not a way to edit which campaigns are pulled in with the *|LIST:RECENT|* merge tag. Consider using the campaign archive code on your own website if you'd like to have more control over which campaigns you show to new or potential subscribers.

Set up an autoresponder

Autoresponders make it easy to send automated emails to your list. If you'd like to use an autoresponder to automatically send a previous campaign to new subscribers, you'll first want to see which option for reusing a campaign template will work best for you. When you're ready to create the autoresponder, choose the previous campaign layout from the Template step in the Campaign Builder, and set the autoresponder to send to subscribers after they sign up to your list.

One thing to keep in mind is that the autoresponder does not automatically update with each new campaign sent. If you want the most recently sent campaign to go out as an autoresponder to new subscribers, you will need to create a new autoresponder for each new campaign, pausing the previous autoresponder so it does not continue to send.

Segmenting your list

Another way to share a sent campaign with new subscribers would be to first replicate a sent campaign. After replicating, use our segmenting tools on the Campaign Builder Setup step to send the new copy to only subscribers added to the list since the last campaign was sent. The specific segment conditions would be Date Added / is after / the last campaign was sent.
