If you've created your own template using MailChimp's template language or imported an HTML file you've coded, you can edit the template's code directly in your account. Below, we walk you through how to access a template's HTML code within the Templates section of your account.
- Navigate to the Templates page in your account.
- Locate the template you'd like to edit by browsing the template list or using the search option.
- Click the Edit button for the Code your own template you want to work with.
From this screen, you can edit the template using MailChimp's visual designer tools or click the Edit Code button to work directly in the template's HTML.
- Click the Save button in the bottom-left corner of the Edit Code window when you're done editing the code, then click the Save and Exit button in the bottom-right corner of the template editor screen.
Changes made to a template will reflect in any draft or scheduled campaigns using that template. Before making edits to a template, make sure there are no draft or scheduled campaigns that could be negatively affected by your changes.
The Edit Code window can be accessed only for Code your own templates. If you created a template using a Basic or Themes template and want to edit the code in MailChimp, you can export the template and then import it back into your account to make it Code your own. However, you won't be able to add, edit, or remove any of the drag and drop blocks in the imported version.
This feature is available to users with Author level or higher permissions. Take a look at this article to learn more about the different access levels for a MailChimp account.
