You can personalize or customize your MailChimp campaigns through the use of merge tags. Merge tags are either system tags MailChimp provides or tags that are automatically created when you add fields to your list.
The fields that you set up in your list (Email Address, Name, Address, etc) will not only become the fields in your list and signup form, but will also have a corresponding Merge Tag.
Merge Tags in List Settings
You can edit and customize your list-specific merge tags (your subscriber data) in your list settings. You can change default tags like *|MMERGE1|* to something descriptive to you like *|NAME|* or *|CITY|*.
- Navigate to the Lists page.
- Click on the Gear drop down and select List Fields and Merge Tags for the list you want to edit.
- On this page you'll find the merge tags you can use to personalize your campaigns.
Using Merge Tags in Campaigns
When you are editing content on your campaigns, there's no need to copy your merge tags from your list settings. We provide a personalized drop down menu in the content editor that will automatically add your merge tags to your campaign.
Just place your cursor in your content where you want to insert your merge tag, then choose your merge tag from the menu. We'll type it out for you so you never have to worry about mistyping a merge tag.
Different lists might have different merge tags, depending on how you setup each different signup form or set of list fields. Make sure you're using the corresponding merge tags for current list, otherwise your merge tags my not display correctly.
