Verifying a domain is an easy way to make sure that campaigns sent via MailChimp have reply-to email addresses that are from domains that account users can access and that they aren't sending from domains that aren't actually theirs. An added bonus is that a good sender isn't having their reputation hijacked by others trying to use their domain when they don't have permission to do so.

What are you verifying?

MailChimp is verifying that you have access to the specific domain used in your reply-to address and that it is okay for campaigns sent from your account to have a reply-to address at that domain.

How do we verify the domain?

There are two ways to verify a new domain: through the account tab, or while building a campaign.

To access the verification dialog box from the Account tab:

1. Hover over Account in the top navigation bar.
   
2. Select Verified Domains from the drop down.
3. Click the verify an email domain button.
   

Once you've clicked on the button, you'll go through the verification process. Click to skip ahead to those steps.

To access the verification dialog box through the Campaign Builder

1. In the Setup step, enter the reply-to address you would like to use for the campaign.
   
2. Continue building the campaign as you normally would.
3. In the Setup step, an error will be reported for the reply-to address. Click the Resolve button to begin the verification process.
   

Verifying your domain

1. Once you've gotten the Verify Domain popup (as described above), type an email address at the domain you want to verify into the email address field. For example, if you want your reply-to address to be replies@myfancydomain.com, enter any email address that ends with @myfancydomain.com.
   
2. Click the send verification email button.
3. An email will be sent from MailChimp Account Services to the provided email address, so check your email to locate it.
   
4. Click the provided link, or copy the verification code in the email and paste it into the enter verification code field of the Verify Domain popup window.
   
5. If you copied your code into the box, confirm by clicking the Verify me button.
6. Success! The domain confirmation will appear. Click carry on to do other things in your account or verify another domainto add additional domains.
