You can upload, insert, and edit images in your account from several places. Image requirements vary by template, so take a look at our image requirements for the template you’ve selected.

Upload images

When you upload an image to your account, we save that file on our server—this is also known as “hosting.” Every image you upload is stored in the File Manager, which can be accessed from the Campaign Builder, Templates page, Template Builder, Code Editor, and Form and Response Email Builder.

JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP files are safe for campaigns. PDF, PSD, and AI file types cannot be used as images in a campaign because most browsers can’t display them. If you’re having difficulty uploading an image or getting an uploaded image to display in your campaign, there are a few troubleshooting steps that you can take.

Upload an image in an image-type content block

  1. Navigate to the Design step of the Campaign Builder.
  2. Select an existing Image, Image Card, Image Group, or Image + Caption block or drag and drop a new image-type content block into your layout.
  3. Drag and drop the image from your computer into the  image-type content block. The image will be automatically inserted into the content block.

You can also click the Browse button to pull up the File Manager. Click Upload to choose a file from your computer, click Import From URL to import an image from a web address, or click the drop-down menu to import from Flickr or Giphy.
Choose to upload an image, import from URL, or import from Flickr, iStockPhoto, or Giphy.
Locate the file you want to upload or import, and click Open or Import to save your image to the MailChimp server.

Click Select for the image you want to use in the content block. You’re then returned to the layout editor, where you can customize the content block how you want.

Upload an image in a  text-type content block

  1. Navigate to the Design step of the Campaign Builder.
  2. Select an existing Text, Boxed Text, or Footer block or drag and drop a new text-type content block into your layout.
  3. Click the File Manager icon in the toolbar.

Select the File Manager icon in the toolbar

  4. Click Upload to choose a file from your computer, click Import From URL to import an image from a web address, or make a selection from the drop-down menu to import from Flickr or Giphy.

Locate the file you want to upload or import, and click Open or Import to save your image to the MailChimp server.

  5. Click Select for the image you want to add to the content block.
  6. On the Edit Image screen, set optional image properties or add a URL to make the image a link.
    Image properties
Select Use image URL to link to the MailChimp-hosted version of the image. You can then edit the image width and height to be a smaller size in your campaign, but recipients can click the image to view the image in its original size.
  7. Click the Save & Insert Image button to return to the layout editor.

If you need to make additional changes to the image settings, double-click the image in the Text block to return to the Edit Image screen.

Note

When an image file (JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP) is uploaded to the File Manager, we change the file name in the URL to a unique identification number. This is due to the way that we store image files in our system so no two files have the same name. The system-generated identification number cannot be changed.

Note

Delete images

You can delete a single image or a batch of images from the File Manager in your account. It may take 24-48 hours for the file to disappear from the File Manager.

Note

  • In our predesigned Themes, some of the content blocks or images are part of the template design and cannot be changed.

  • The delete and hide controls don't offer the same functionality in our Template Editor. In fact, you can't actually remove anything while working in the Template Editor. If you need to make changes like that, we suggest you work in the Campaign Builder instead.
