If a video merge tag in your campaign isn't working, there are a few common causes. Below, you'll find information on the reasons that a video merge tag may not work as expected, and the next steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Check the formatting on your tags.
Double check that your video merge tags don't contain additional text formatting. For example, a YouTube tag should look like this:
*|YOUTUBE: xxxx|* or *| YOUTUBE:xxxx|*
Bold and other formatting places styling code in your template's HTML code, which breaks merge tags.
Did you recently upload your video?
Sometimes the integration between MailChimp and a particular video service is not instantaneous. If your video isn't showing up, you may need to wait a few hours for the video to be available via the merge tag in MailChimp.
Make sure your videos aren't password-protected.
Our system is unable to access password-protected videos in order to pull in a screenshot and link. If your videos are protected, it's best just to create a link directly to your video.
The video service may be busy.
One of the video services you're working with may be under a heavy load or have an outage at the moment. These issues usually don't last too long, so give the video service a little time to work it out.
Did you recently edit your video?
When you edit your videos, the changes aren't automatically pulled in by your video merge tags. To repopulate your merge tags with the newest version of your videos, you will need to delete and re-add the merge tag.
