Upload, Add, and Edit Images in Campaigns
This feature requires Author user level or higher.
You can upload, insert, and edit images in your account from several places. Image requirements vary by template, so take a look at our image requirements for the template you've selected.
In this article, you'll learn how to upload and edit images in your campaigns.
Upload Images
When you upload an image to your account, we save that file on our server—this is also known as hosting. Every image you upload is stored in the File Manager, which can be accessed from the Campaign Builder, Templates page, Template Builder, Code Editor, and Form Builder.
JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP files are safe for campaigns. PDF, PSD, and AI file types can't be used as images in a campaign because most browsers can't display them. If you have difficulty uploading an image or getting an uploaded image to display in your campaign, there are a few troubleshooting steps that you can take.
Upload an Image to an Image Content Block
- Navigate to the Design step of the Campaign Builder.
- Select an existing Image, Image Card, Image Group, or Image + Caption block or drag and drop a new image content block into your layout.
- Drag and drop the image from your computer into the image content blockto automatically insert the image. You can also click
Browse to open the
File Manager and upload a file from your computer, import an image from a URL, or from
Flickr or
Giphy.

- If you clicked Browse, locate the file you want to upload or import, and click Open or Import to save your image to MailChimp.
- Click Select for the image you want to use in the content block.
After you've selected your image, you can customize the image content block.
Upload an Image to a Text Content Block
- Navigate to the Design step of the Campaign Builder.
- Select an existing Text, Boxed Text, or Footer block or drag and drop a new text content block into your layout.
- Click the File Manager icon in the toolbar.

- Click
Upload to choose a file from your computer, click
Import From URL to import an image from a web address, or make a selection from the drop-down menu to import from
Flickr or
Giphy.

Locate the file you want to upload or import, and click Open or Import to save your image to MailChimp. - Click Select for the image you want to add to the content block.
- On the
Edit Image screen, set optional image properties or
add a URL to make the image a link.

Click Use image URL. You can edit the image width and height to be a smaller size in your campaign, but recipients can click the image to view the image in its original size. -
Click Save & Insert Image.
If you need to make additional changes to the image settings, double-click the image in the text block to return to the Edit Image screen.
When an image file (JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP) is uploaded to the File Manager, we change the file name in the URL to a unique identification number. This is due to the way that we store image files in our system so no two files have the same name. The system-generated identification number can't be changed.
Insert an Image from the File Manager
After you've uploaded an image to MailChimp, it can be accessed from the File Manager in a few places, including the Campaign Builder, Templates page, Template Builder, Code Editor, and Form and Form Builder. To insert an image in the Campaign Builder, follow the steps below.

Additionally, if you've made multiple changes to the image and are not satisfied with the results you can click the Cancel & Exit button to return to the Image Properties modal and the original uploaded image.
- Once you save an image in Photo Editor, any edits you made can't be undone.
- When you edit an image in Photo Editor, it creates a new image in the File Manager. If you want to go back to the original image, it can be inserted into the Campaign Builder from the File Manager.
Delete Images
You can delete a single image or a batch of images from the File Manager in your account. It may take 24-48 hours for the file to disappear from the File Manager.
-
In our predesigned Themes, some of the content blocks or images are part of the template design and can't be changed.
- The delete and hide controls don't offer the same functionality in our Template Builder. In fact, you can't actually remove anything while working in the Template Builder. If you need to make changes like that, we suggest you work in the Campaign Builder instead.
