Integrate Unbabel With MailChimp
This feature requires Manager user level or higher.
Unbabel is a paid translation service that uses machine translation followed by human editing to deliver accurate, clean translated content. The Unbabel integration syncs with your MailChimp account to translate campaign content for your subscribers at $0.03 per word and is controlled from your Unbabel account.
In this article, you'll learn how to set up your Unbabel account and integrate it with MailChimp.
Create an Unbabel Account
If you already have an account with Unbabel, you are ready to connect Unbabel to MailChimp. To create an Unbabel account, follow these steps.
- Navigate to Unbabel’s homepage.
- Click Sign Up to create an account.
- Enter your email address and click Create Account.

- When you receive the activation email, click Activate your account to return to Unbabel.
- Fill in your first and last name and choose a password for your account, then click Activate account. For
account security purposes, choose a password that is different from your MailChimp password.

After you’re finished setting up your Unbabel account and are directed back to the Unbabel dashboard, you’re ready to set up the integration.
Connect Unbabel to MailChimp
- From your account dashboard in Unbabel, locate the Products menu in the page footer and click Unbabel for MailChimp.

- Click Connect to MailChimp
under the Unbabel Newsletters heading.

- Click Log In in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Fill in your Unbabel log in credentials and click Sign into Unbabel.
- On the Connect Unbabel to your account screen, type your MailChimp login credentials and click Log In to connect to MailChimp.

After you connect your Unbabel account to MailChimp, you’re taken back to the Unbabel dashboard where your draft campaigns are displayed.
Unbabel for MailChimp can only access Regular and Plain-Text draft campaigns from your MailChimp account. To translate a sent campaign, replicate it to create a draft version or create a new campaign that uses a sent campaign as a template.
Translate a Campaign
Before you order a translation, purchase credits through Unbabel by clicking the Add Balance tab on the dashboard in your Unbabel account. To translate a campaign after you’ve purchased credits, follow these steps.
- Navigate to the Unbabel dashboard.
- Locate the campaign you want to translate and click Request a translation.
When you request a translation, you’re taken to the Order details page for your translation order. - On the Translate step, click the drop-down menu, and choose the language your campaign will be translated from.

Click the plus sign (+) next to the Select a language field and choose the languages you want to translate your campaign to from the pop-up menu. Languages that display an asterisk may take longer to translate.

Each language you select will display as country flags next to the language selection tools.

- On the Set the tone step, click the drop-down menu, and choose the tone for your translation.

- On the Pick a topic step, click the drop-down menu, and choose a topic for your translation to help the translator understand the context for your campaign content.

- In the Add a note field, provide any additional information that would help the translator more accurately translate your content.

- Review the Order summary below the translation setup form.
- When you’re ready to place your translation order, click Order now.

- Type TRANSLATE
in the confirmation field and click Order
to complete your translation order. A success message will display when your order is placed.

To translate additional campaigns, repeat these steps.
Preview and Use Translations
Depending on the language your campaign is being translated to and how many translations you need, it may take up to 24 hours for Unbabel to return your an order. The status of translation orders displays on the Unbabel dashboard to the right of the campaign name.

To preview and use finished translations, follow these steps.
- Navigate to the Unbabel dashboard.
- Click on a campaign to view the details of the translation order for that campaign.

The language for each translation displays below the translated campaign title and the status of the translation displays on the right. - Click Preview to preview the translation in your browser. If you’re satisfied with your campaign translation, click Accept. If you choose to Reject a translation, you will be be contacted by Unbabel to resolve the issue.

After you accept a translation, the translated campaign appears in your MailChimp account as a draft campaign on the Campaigns page and the abbreviation for the language the campaign was translated to displays next to the campaign title.

- Finish building your campaign inside the Campaign Builder and then schedule or send to your list.

Use MailChimp’s segmenting tools to target subscribers who need to receive translated content. If you don’t have a language field set up for your list, you can segment by the MailChimp-determined language or by your subscriber’s location information.

You can replicate your translated campaigns to reuse the translation or save your translated draft campaign as a template.
