MailChimp uses some system merge tags throughout our application that can't be reused anywhere else. For this reason, some merge tag names are reserved for our use, and might need to be renamed in your list.
For example, you may have seen errors like these.
Sorry, INTERESTS is reserved and can't be used.
Sorry, LIST is a reserved prefix and can't be used.
Below, you'll find a full list of reserved merge and system tags that cannot be used in your lists.
*|INTERESTS|* *|UNSUB|* *|FORWARD|* *|REWARDS|* *|ARCHIVE|* *|USER_URL|* *|DATE|* *|EMAIL|* *|EMAIL_TYPE|* *|TO|*
These tag prefixes are used for MailChimp styles and List properties. For example, *|MC:REPEATABLE|* or *|LIST:NAME|*. Avoid opening any of your merge tags with "MC" or "LIST."
