Close an Account

This feature is limited to certain user levels. You can see your user level on the Users & Account Details page and this article explains what each level can access in the account.

If you no longer need to use MailChimp, you have the option to temporarily pause or permanently close your account in your Account Settings.

When you permanently close an account, your lists, campaign archives and reports cannot be restored. Before you close an account, be sure to back up your data.

Below you'll learn how to close your account.

  1. Click your profile name to expand the Account Panel, and select Account.
  2. Click the Account settings drop-down menu, and choose Pause or delete account.
  3. Click the radio button next to Permanently delete this account, and then click Continue.
    Select Permanently Delete Account to delete your account.
  4. Fill out the exit survey, then click Permanently Delete Account.
  5. On the Confirm Account Deletion pop-up modal, type DELETE in all caps, and then click the Delete Your Account button to permanently close your MailChimp account.

We'll display a success message to let you know your account has been closed. Once an account is deleted, it can't be restored. This means all account data, including lists and reports, is removed from our system and can't be recovered.

If you just want to stop monthly billing, you can purchase Pay As You Go credits instead. If you don't need to send emails for a while, but want to retain access to your MailChimp account and reactivate sending later, you can pause your account twice a year.
