There are a few different ways to delete a list or clear subscribers from the list within MailChimp. Below we'll walk you through each of the four options that are available to use so you can determine which option works best for you.

Note: If there's an active autoresponder, or a recently-sent campaign for the list, the list can be deleted seven (7) days after the last campaign was sent. Lists are required to remain in the account for seven days following the sending of a campaign or autoresponder to ensure that subscribers have time to unsubscribe and reports can be collected. During this time the bulk actions to delete subscribers, move to list and unsubscribe will be disabled as well. After the seven day period has passed these options will be reenabled and can be used on the list.

Clear All Subscribers From a List

This option will allow you to remove all subscribers from the list while keeping the list data, including signup forms, intact. To do this:

  1. Go to the Lists page in your MailChimp account.
  2. Hover over Settings and click List Settings and Unique ID.

  3. Choose the Delete All Subscribers option.
  4. Type "DELETE" to confirm that you want to do this.
  5. Click the delete all button to remove all the subscribers.

Delete One Subscriber (or just a few)

If you only need to delete a few subscribers from your list, then you don't need to delete your entire list. You can also unsubscribe them instead to be sure they aren't accidentally added back to your list. Here's how to delete one subscriber from your list:

  1. Go to the Lists page in your MailChimp account.
  2. Select view for the list that you want to update.
    View All Subscribers
  3. Click Subscribers above the name of the list.
    View All Subscribers In List
  4. Locate the subscriber you want to delete. You can search for their email address, or use the segment option to limit which subscribers are shown.
  5. Click the delete button in the last column to delete a specific subscriber.

    • Choosing the delete option will allow you to delete the entire entry for that one subscriber. You will still be able to manually add that person back to your list and they will still be able to sign up.
    • When the list item is deleted, we'll show a success message. This is just to let you know the action was completed.

Bulk Delete Subscribers

You can delete multiple subscribers from your list at once. This is useful in situations where you need to delete more than few subscribers from your list at a time. Just make sure that it wouldn't be better to just unsubscribe them instead. Unsubscribing them will move them to the unsubscribed section of the list and prevents them from being accidentally re-added to the list.

If you want to bulk delete subscribers here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists page in your MailChimp account.
  2. Select view for the list you want to change.
  3. Click Subscribers above the name of the list.
    View All Subscribers In List
  4. Select the subscribers to be removed by checking the box to the left of their name.
    Select Subscribers
  5. Select the bulk actions drop down at the top of the page and choose delete to remove them from the list.

Note

For list data integrity and security reasons, MailChimp doesn't maintain backups for deleted lists. Once a list is deleted or subscribers cleared from the list, the data can't be recovered. It's a good idea to back up your lists on a regular basis.
