Upload images

When you upload an image in the Design step of the Campaign Builder, we save that file on our server—also known as "hosting." Every image you upload is stored in the File Manager, which can be accessed from the Campaign Builder or the Templates page.

GIF, JPG, PNG files are safe for campaigns. PDF, PSD, and AI file types cannot be used as images in a campaign because most browsers don't know how to display them. If you're having difficulty uploading an image or getting an uploaded image to display in the campaign, take a look at this article for more information.

Upload an image in an Image block

  1. Navigate to the Design step of the Campaign Builder.
  2. Select an existing Image block or drag and drop a new Image content block into your layout.
  3. Drag and drop the image from your computer into the Image block. You can also click the Browse button to pull up the File Manager, where you can upload a new image or import one from a web address.

  4. When the upload is complete, your image is automatically inserted in the Image block you selected, and you're returned to the layout editor.

You'll see four options the next time you view the Image pane in the editor: Replace, to select a new file; Edit to edit the image in Aviary; Link to add a click-through link; and Alt to add alt text, for screen readers.

Image options

When editing an Image block, you can select the Constrain Image Dimensions By 50% For High-Definition Displays checkbox on the Settings tab. This will help to prevent image pixelation when viewed on devices with retina display.

Note

When a file is uploaded to the File Manager, we change the file name in the URL to a unique identification number. This is due to the way that we store files in our system so no two files have the same name. If your campaign links to a file for subscribers to download, the downloaded file name will be our system-generated identification number rather than the file name seen in the File Manager. The system-generated identification number cannot be changed.

Delete images

You can delete a single image or a batch of images from the File Manager in your account. Once you delete something, it can take 24 to 48 hours for the file to be removed from the File Manager. Learn more about deleting files.

Notes

  • In our predesigned Themes, some of the content blocks or images are part of the template design and cannot be changed.
  • The delete and hide controls don't offer the same functionality in our Template Editor. In fact, you can't actually remove anything while working in the Template Editor. If you need to make changes like that, we suggest you work in the Campaign Builder instead.
  • When viewing images in the File Manager, more recent images are loaded faster and at the top. Additional images will appear as you scroll down.

This feature is available to users with Author level or higher permissions. Take a look at this article to learn more about the different access levels for a MailChimp account.
