Embedding video into your email campaign used to be an absolutely-not-gonna-happen situation. The player files required to play rich media are usually seen as a security threat by most email clients, firmly sticking them on the "Not Allowed" list. We've created a group of video merge tags that work around this problem for YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, Vzaar and Wistia.
Wistia has taken that merge tag and done something very cool with it. They've added tracking! So, now you can know who viewed your video, how much they watched and what parts did they watch the most. How great is that!
These stats will live on Wistia. So once you've sent out your campaign with video, log into Wistia > Stats menu > Public and Embed Stats.
Here's how to create an integrated Wistia/MailChimp email campaign
- Log into your Wistia account and upload the video that you want to share.
- Enter the video embed modal. You can do this by clicking the Embed button under the video player or by choosing Embed under the Media Actions drop-down menu.
- In the Embed Modal, open the For Email Marketing tab and choose MailChimp from the email provider drop-down.

- Tweak your settings for your thumbnail size (how big the image your subscribers will see) and landing page (where they will go to see the video). Also, make sure your video is set as a public project. You'll be prompted to do so before you leave this screen, if you haven't already done it.
- Copy the Video Merge Tag into the body of your newsletter.

- Finish up your newsletter as you normally would, test it and send it out.
- Once your subscribers start receiving their emails and viewing your video, Wistia will start tracking their stats. You can see the details by logging back into your Wistia campaign and going to the Public and Embed Stats under the Stats menu.
