Set Up or Change Email Subject, From Name, and From Email Address on a Campaign

This feature requires Author user level or higher.

Tips for Campaign Information

Name Your Campaign

The information entered into the Name your campaign field is what will display on the Campaigns dashboard in your account. This information is only visible to account holders, and subscribers will not see the name of a campaign.

If your campaign is still in draft status, it can be renamed on the Setup step of the Campaign Builder. Once a campaign has been sent to a list, it can't be renamed or edited.

From name

Receiving email clients can override what you set as your From name. This can happen when the address that is listed as the From email address is stored in your email client's contacts or address book under a different name. After several days, the From name will revert back to the defaults you set up.

Email subject

The best email subject lines are short, descriptive, and provide the reader with a reason to explore your message further.

Since content can appear differently in various email clients and programs, avoid certain characters like quotation marks, the @ symbol, or the & sign in the subject line of your campaign. To include emojis in your subject line, choose from the emojis in our emoji picker, which can be accessed by clicking the icon on the right side of the Email subject field.

Cursor clicks smiley face icon in the Email Subject field to access the emoji picker.

If you include special characters or symbols in your subject line, use MailChimp's Inbox Preview to see how your subject line looks in several inboxes before you send.

From email address

You can set a unique From email address for each campaign you create and your list's confirmation and welcome emails. When you set the From email address for your campaigns and list emails, be sure that you or someone in your organization has access to this email's inbox. You'll receive automated replies, out-of-office messages, and subscriber replies at this designated address. If you're concerned about the volume of emails you may receive, set up a dedicated email address just for your email campaigns to avoid overflowing your personal inbox.

If you'd like to track replies in your MailChimp account and allow other account users to receive notifications when subscribers reply to campaigns, check out our Conversations feature.

Personalize the "To:" field

When you send an email campaign to someone, you should address it to their name, if you have it in your database, instead of just their email address. Spam filters are less likely to block you if you know the recipient's name. Use our merge tags to auto-populate the "To:" field with your subscribers first names.

If you don't have name information for all of the recipients on your list, we recommend that you don't personalize this field or that you set up a default value that will display in place of missing information. Some email programs are unable to render your campaign properly if there isn't a value in the To: field.
