View and Edit Section Design

This feature requires Author user level or higher.

MailChimp templates allow you to organize content blocks into separate sections, such as the header, body, and footer.

Set styles, like font size and background color, for each section to apply the preferences to all of the content blocks in that section. After you set your preferences for each section, further customize the design of your campaign in each content block.

In this article, you'll learn how to set styles for each section of your campaign and about the different design options.

  • Email Border – Add a border around just the central content (text and images) of your campaign.

Preheader
The area at the very top of your campaign that usually includes a blurb about the content of your campaign and a link to your campaign archive. Many email clients, like Gmail and Yahoo, show the preheader text after the campaign subject line in their inbox.
Example of how preheader text can display in inbox.

  • Preheader Style – Change the background color, and add a bottom or top border.
  • Preheader Text – Set the text color, font, font size, line height, and alignment.
  • Preheader Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links.

Header
The main image and text at the top of the campaign. This is typically the first thing subscribers see when they open the campaign. It's a good idea to include your logo or company name so subscribers can quickly identify who the email is from.

  • Header Style – Change the background color, and add a bottom or top border.
  • Header Text – Set the text color, font, font size, line height, and alignment.
  • Header Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links.

Sidebar
The content running along the right or left side of the campaign. It can include contact information, upcoming events, or other details that are not your main message. This option is available only for templates with a sidebar.

  • Sidebar Style – Change the background color, and add a left or right border, depending on if your template has a left or right sidebar.
  • Sidebar Text – Change the text color, font, font size, line height, and text alignment.
  • Sidebar Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links.

Body

  • Body Text – Set the text color, font, font size, line height, and alignment.
  • Body Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links.

Columns
Content that appears in two or three columns rather than a single column. If your template also includes a Body section, the less important information is usually placed in the columns. This option is available only for templates with more than one column.

  • Column Style – Change the background color, and add a bottom or top border.
  • Left Column Text – Change the text color, font, font size, line height, and alignment for the left column.
  • Left Column Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links in the left column.

  • Right Column Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links in the right column.

Footer
The content at the bottom of your campaign. It contains information about your list and organization, and provides an unsubscribe link. In many templates, this content is provided by default.

  • Footer Style – Change the background color, and add a top or bottom border.
  • Footer Text – Change the text color, font, font size, line height, and alignment.
  • Footer Link – Change the text color, weight, and decoration for links.

Mobile Styles
Change how your campaign appears on mobile devices. Preview and test your campaign by viewing test emails on mobile devices to check for readability.

  • Template Width – Change the width of the template as it appears on a mobile device.
  • Heading 1-4 – Change the set font size and line height for headings in your campaign.
  • Boxed Text – Change the font size and line height for Boxed Text and Image Card content blocks.
  • Preheader Visibility – Choose to Show or Hide the preheader when viewed in mobile devices. On mobile devices, the preheader stacks, so that the text on the left side of the preheader appears above the right-side text.

You also have the option to change the font size and line height for each section of the campaign. These styles are applied to the campaign only when viewing it on a mobile device.
